Didnt happen then and it isnt suddenly going to happen now.Īnd the reason was simple, the logic was flawed. Its literally the same conversations that happened when bethesda was being acquired, and some of you's were convinced that MS wouldnt 'leave all that money on the table' only to eat crow when all future games became exclusive. They would simply not operate it under those conditions, the service would need to scale back drastically and thus become far less attractive and shed subscribers.Ĭlick to shrink.Yeah no. People constantly ask if Gamepass is "sustainable" as a business model - I venture that demolishing it's economic basis makes it definitely unsustainable. One source of revenue on gamepass games is eliminated, and the other is cut by 30%. So, the economic disincentive is very high. If they permitted GP on Playstation, it would most likely be in a much more limited and less attractive form.įor Microsoft, not only is there uncertainty as to whether PS/Nintendo would even let them on, but also that they are immediately going to have to pay a fee on those subs (probably 30%), and they would no longer have access to microtransaction revenues from games on that platform because they would be Playstation/Switch games and Sony/Nintendo would get that revenue instead. Playstation considers Gamepass a threat to their normal business model, to say nothing of it being a threat to PS+ Extra/Premium. Ubisoft+ similarly in it's purest form is only available on PC, with console versions only available on Xbox (and not covering the full list!) - except for a limited rotating library that Sony pays for inclusion in their own sub service ("Ubisoft+ Classic"). EA Play Pro, their premium "all games day 1" sub tier, is only available on PC, it's not on either Xbox or Playstation. They only grudgingly permitted EA Play more than 5 years after it launched on Xbox. Sony very likely will not allow Gamepass in it's current form on Playstation.
